Planning Tips

How Far in Advance Should You Plan a Bali Wedding?

How early is early enough? Ideal planning timelines for every size of Bali wedding, and what can (and can’t) be done last-minute.

The short version

How early you need to start depends mostly on the size of your wedding. As a rule of thumb:

  • Large weddings (100+ guests): 12–18 months
  • Mid-sized weddings (30–75 guests): 9–12 months
  • Small weddings (under 30 guests): 4–8 months
  • Elopements (2 guests): 2–4 months

These are comfortable lead times, not hard limits — we can often work faster — but they give you the best choice and the calmest planning.

Why earlier is better

The single biggest reason to start early is availability. Bali’s best venues and most in-demand vendors book out months ahead, especially for peak-season dates (June to September). If you have your heart set on a specific clifftop venue, a particular photographer, or a popular Saturday in July, the only way to guarantee it is to book before someone else does. Starting early also spreads decisions over a relaxed timeline rather than cramming them, and leaves room for the legal document process if you’re marrying legally in Bali.

Big weddings need the most runway

The larger your guest list, the earlier you should begin. A 100 or 150-guest wedding involves a major venue, large accommodation blocks across multiple properties, a transport fleet, and the top vendors capable of an event that size — all of which are limited and book out far in advance. Giving your guests plenty of notice to arrange international travel matters too. For these weddings, 12–18 months isn’t excessive; it’s sensible.

Small weddings can move fast

At the other end, elopements and intimate weddings are wonderfully nimble. With just a handful of people, far fewer things need to align, so a stunning ceremony can be arranged in a couple of months. If you’ve decided you want to marry in Bali soon, a small wedding or elopement is the way to make it happen without compromise.

Already short on time?

If your ideal date is closer than these guidelines suggest, don’t assume it’s off the table — especially for a smaller or flexible wedding. We regularly create beautiful weddings at shorter notice by tapping our vendor network and recommending available venues. Our planning process moves quickly when it needs to. The best move is simply to ask: tell us your date and guest count, and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should you book a Bali wedding?

For a mid-to-large wedding, 9–12 months ahead is ideal to secure your venue, date, vendors and guest travel, and to handle any legal documents. Large weddings of 100+ guests benefit from 12–18 months, while elopements and small weddings can often be arranged in 2–4 months.

Can you plan a Bali wedding in a few months?

Yes, especially for elopements and intimate weddings. Smaller weddings have fewer moving parts, so a beautiful day can come together in 2–4 months. Larger weddings are harder to rush because venues, accommodation and top vendors book out well ahead.

What books out first for a Bali wedding?

Venues and peak-season dates go first, followed by the most in-demand photographers, videographers and stylists, and large accommodation blocks. If you have a specific venue, date or vendor in mind, booking early is the only way to guarantee it.

Is it too late to plan a Bali wedding for this year?

Often not — particularly for smaller weddings or flexible dates. Even at shorter notice we can usually create something beautiful. The sooner you reach out, the more options you'll have, so it's always worth asking.
