But getting truly stunning images isn’t just luck; it comes down to a few deliberate choices around timing, location and coverage. Here’s how to make the most of it.

Timing is everything

The most important factor in your photos isn’t the camera — it’s the light, and that means timing. Bali’s midday sun is harsh and unflattering, while the golden hour around sunset bathes everything in warm, soft light. That’s why we schedule ceremonies for the late afternoon and deliberately protect two windows for portraits: the half hour right after the ceremony, and the period around sunset. Build your timeline around the light and your gallery will thank you.

Choosing your locations

The most photogenic Bali weddings often need the least decoration, because the setting does the work. The clifftops and glass chapels of Uluwatu are the island’s most dramatic backdrop; beaches in Seminyak and Jimbaran deliver classic sunset romance; and Ubud’s jungle and rice terraces offer something lush and unique. If incredible photos are a top priority, let that influence where you marry — some venues are simply more camera-ready than others.

How much coverage to book

Photography is priced by time and team size, not guest count, so the question is how much of your day you want documented. Most couples book at least 8 hours, spanning getting ready to the early reception. For larger weddings, or to capture the full party, 10+ hours or a second shooter is worth it. Book a photographer whose existing work you genuinely love — style is personal, and you want someone whose eye matches your taste.

Photo vs video

Photographs are non-negotiable; video is a beautiful extra. A cinematic film captures what stills can’t — your vows in your own voices, the movement of the day, the laughter and the atmosphere. If your budget stretches, many couples are deeply grateful they booked both. If you have to choose, prioritise an excellent photographer first, then add video if you can.
